Gardening Writer for Plews
Marie began writing the weekly award-winning Plews Potting Shed in late 2011. This developed from the ‘Just Sprouted’ news section on an earlier version of the website.
A quick look through the categories on Plews Potting Shed blog will show a range of articles to interest those who like hands on practical gardening or like to be inspired with planting design ideas. And there’s plenty too for those who prefer to read about garden history and ‘how to’ blogs from the comfort of their armchair.
Despite some ‘tidying -up’ of outdated topical blogs and Nathan Waterfield’s contributions, there are still over 470 blogs written by Marie. A useful resource for her gardening students and design clients as well as a library for the gardening public.
The small library of eBooks was begun at the request of various clients, for themselves and to send as gifts, as they valued Marie’s expertise and her ability to make it enjoyable as a gardening writer. Most titles are also available on Amazon, Smashwords and other indie outlets.
Then there are the less obvious “products of the pen of a gardening writer”. Plews News is the monthly Gardening Tipsheet sent to clients and garden enthusiasts and is primarily written and edited by Marie. And the content of the daily updates and tips on social media are again predominantly Marie’s work, even though she doesn’t post everything herself.
How are Gardening Writers Grown?
And for those who are interested in when and how writers began writing, their ‘motivation’, yes, Marie was writing before 2008 although not always as a gardening writer.
Tired of her ‘borrowing’ his typewriter, her father gave her one of her own, a smaller child’s version. On this Marie produced ‘Shallcross Weekly’ whilst still in Primary School. Her dolls were the ‘reporters’ and the circulation was restricted to family members. Not a long-lasting publication (a couple of years) as Marie moved onto other forms of authorship, particularly short stories and poems, some of which were published in her teens.
Storytelling to her children took over from the written word for a while, but nevertheless there are boxes of notebooks with ideas, stories and articles on a range of topics stored in the attic. And squirrelled away in drawers and on bookshelves. Some of them are worth developing into a finished format…watch this space…
