Tender plant

A tender plant is a plant or shrub which, unlike frost hardy plants, cannot survive harsh conditions such as low temperatures, particularly if wet and cold. The reason is that they are native to warmer, tropical, sub-tropical or mediterranean climates.

They are often perennials in their natural habitats but treated as annuals in temperate regions such as the UK.

amaranthus paniculatus, purple amaranth, tender perennial, exotic garden, ornamental edible garden
