Half-hardy annuals

Half-hardy annuals are annual flowers , fruit and vegetables that need to be started off as seed sown under protection. Alternatively, for later flowering species, they may be sown later in the year when the risk of frost has passed.

They are called half-hardy annuals as they are part way between hardy annuals which can be sown as early as February and tender annuals, which need to be sown under cover with heat, possibly even later than the half-hardy plants.
